INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING ~ The school counselor provides individual and small group counseling regarding school-related issues and themes. Students are seen at the request of teachers and/or parents. Counseling services in the school setting are generally brief and goal oriented. Students in need of long term therapy are referred for private professional support.

Structured small group counseling is also provided as needs arise. Groups are usually formed from the school counselor’s individual caseload, through students identified by the teacher needs assessment or student needs assessment, or upon the request of teachers or parents/guardians.  Frequent themes are friendship, self-esteem, anger management, grief, coping with changes, anxiety/stress, and academic support/study skills.

CLASSROOM GUIDANCE ~ The school counselor provides lessons to classrooms on grade level specific topics throughout the school year.  K-5 classrooms receive classroom guidance lessons once per week. Topics range from self-control, building positive self-esteem, feelings/emotions, getting along with others/friendship, bullying, conflict resolution, and study skills. Typically these lessons may involve bibliotherapy, videos, hands on activities, and group discussions.
